about

"Celestial Wanderer" is a sonic journey to 9 of the many moons in our solar system. Each of these fascinating places have stories to tell.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
With this fourth album, Douglas Schmidt and John Oliver create a seamless integration of electronics and bandoneon, evoking ancient folk-like melodies from outer space. Lyrical, wistful folk-like melodies wander through shimmering, celestial sheets of ambient soundscapes that vary in atmosphere from water flowing under ice, to soft pulsing under distant mystery choirs.

GENESIS OF THE ALBUM.

"When I was young, I was interested to study either astro physics or music. Music seemed the easier choice at the time. I enjoy reading articles from NASA and various sources, and came upon the idea of making a series of lunar pieces. The idea for the album really came from reading NASA articles."
– Douglas Schmidt

"As we were developing the music, we were not thinking of titles. But something struck Douglas about the improvisations that made him think of moons, and I immediately said "yes." His slow melodies that wander through my spacey synthesis really evoked the orbiting and strange-looking moons, whose web pages Douglas sent to me. Yup, we're space cadets!"
– John Oliver
